Senior Serena Warner not only had a career match against Washington State (10-16, 1-13 in Pac-12), she also broke and set a new school record in the process.
By notching 11 kills in her 12 attacking attempts, Warner set the match-high attack percentage with a .917 clip, surpassing Tia Stewart’s .900 clip set back during the 1997 season.
Apart from the new record, it was also a good day for the rest of Warner’s Oregon teammates as the Ducks ended a two-game losing streak and defeated Washington State 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19) in Pullman, Washington.
After losing to No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Washington in their previous two matches, the N0. 11 Ducks (18-6, 8-6 in Pac-12) got strong performances from every one of their starters. Three players recorded double digit kills and three players recorded double digit digs.
Liz Brenner led the way with 12 kills while Warner added 11 and Marten Bettendorf chipped in 10. Brenner and libero Amanda Benson tied for the team-high in digs with 14 while defensive specialist Chelsey Keoho added 13.
Setters Maggie Scott (27 assists) and Shellsy Ashen (20 assists) did a good job of distributing the ball as six different players recorded 12 or more attacks with the two middle combing for 32 total attacks.
The schedule gets no easier for Oregon as the Ducks will now fly south to face No. 16 Arizona on Thursday in Tucson, Arizona and the No. 20 Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona on Saturday.
