The University of Oregon has made a proposal to build a new residency hall on the eastern edge of campus, behind the Many Nations Long House on 16th and Columbia.
The UO Board of Trustees Committee announced today that the new dorm will have 500 rooms and 2,100 beds, according to the agenda.
This is the first in a series of new dorm renovations that are planned to replace dorms such as Walton, Bean and Hamilton which have been on campus for over 50 years now.
Planners are expecting to receive a gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
The UO is set to begin design work in December and plan move-in by fall 2017.
The cost of the new dorm is estimated to be $45 million. The board did not specify what funds will be used to pay for the project.
The full board is set to consider the matter further during an all-day meeting on Thursday.
