In honor of the tradition of counting down to the new year, here are the top-10 things going on in Duck sports:
10. – The top of the list is dedicated to football, as most Oregon fans are anxiously awaiting tommorrow when their team participates in the innaguaral College Football Playoffs. While you wait, check out the best photos from the year.
9. – The Florida State defense is preparing for the Ducks, though there is concern about how to slow the frenetic pace of the offense.
8. – Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost sees the play of his freshman as one of the most important keys to the team’s success.
7. – Speed, freshman…how could this next one not be about Devon Allen? He is ready for the game, not at all intimidated as he prepares for another big stage.
6. – Lets move away from football for awhile. Oregon women’s basketball dominated Seattle Monday night, winning 70-44. For the first time in a long time the Ducks were able to get off to a fast start. An early 18-5 run helped Oregon coast to the easy victory. Senior Katelyn Loper lead the field with 16 points while star junior Jillian Alleyne gathered her customary double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
5. – Monday was a double-header for basketball fans as the men’s team also took the court. The Ducks won in overtime, finishing off UC Irvine 76-74. Dwayne Benjamin paced Oregon, playing with rhythm in the final non-conference game. He finished with a game-high 18 points.
4. – Don’t look now, but Oregon was able to finish with a strong record through non-conference play. The men’s team is 10-3 despite coming off a brutal offseason. Coach Dana Altman still isn’t pleased, wanting more consistency from his team.
3. – All right, back to football. The Register-Guard’s Austin Meek wrote an interesting column about Jameis Winston’s hard to ignore charm. One of the standouts in the article is that during one media session, Winston had to answer 90 questions.
2. – Here are more photos of the football team, this time from the second open practice at StubHub center.
1. – Oh no, don’t be nervous about tomorrow Oregon fans. Just think about the last time Oregon was playing in this game. Check out this article looking back on the 2012 Rose Bowl win over Wisonsin. Remember how great that was? The Badgers even had a guy by the name of Russell Wilson, himself a well-accomplished quarterback too. Yet, it wasn’t enough.
Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone.
