The ASUO voter guide will be released at 9 a.m. Tuesday March 31. This will be the first interactive voter guide of any past ASUO election and will feature a one-minute video shot in the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism basement studio.
The voter guide video will feature a headshot of each of the 95 candidates running for a position and their answers to three questions: What should be taught in schools but isn’t?; If you were a cartoon, what would you look like; Why should we vote for you? ASUO Executive candidates will also be asked to “describe a time in the ASUO where you felt that you made a difference.”
When asked what they would look like as cartoons, candidates were provided a whiteboard and marker, which resulted in candidates drawing humorous caricatures or stick figures of themselves. According to Joseph McRobert, one of the four students who developed the voter guide, this is meant to add a fun visual element, since they are using a video medium.
Though voter guide is set to be released on Tuesday morning, it will not be complete until Tuesday evening. Eleven candidates still need to be filmed, since some are still returning from vacation.
Students will be able to view the videos online at elections.uoregon.edu. An email with the link will be sent to UO students, reminding them that they are able to vote in the 2015 ASUO elections.
