The Eugene Springfield Fire Department deployed seven vehicles to the intersection of 13th Avenue and Kincaid Street at 1:18 p.m. in response to reports of a building fire.
Eugene & Springfield Fire Department battalion chief Jeff Kronser said that a small second-floor fire above Noodle Head has been extinguished. The department has not said what caused the fire, although Taylor’s manager Eric Clarke said a dryer malfunction was the culprit.
Bill Center, a Noodle Head cook, said he smelled what he thought to be sulphur or burning wires.
Noodle Head owner Tony Chulacharitta said the smell didn’t scare him. He continued to serve customers until people from the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation office above Noodle Head told them to vacate the building.
Red Rooster owner Pete Peterson, whose business sits adjacent to Noodle Head, said at the time that the fire was caused by an electrical wire in the wall. When he smelled smoke, he snatched the sports memorabilia that that lined the walls of his shop and didn’t leave until firefighters told him to.
