Age: 21
Hometown: Redmond, Washington
Year: Senior
Major: Political Science
Dream Job: My dream job is to be Secretary of State.
Why are you attending UO?
It’s pretty close to home and when I came, I came for chemistry and we have a pretty good chemistry department here. Then, I switched my major to political science and I’m glad I did because our political science department’s super strong.
How/ why do you want to change the world?
I’d really like to make it a safer place. I’m really interested in foreign policy and I’m trying to find a job in that and so I want to be able to make countries have good relationships with each other and make it so we’re not being forced to send people overseas to go fight.
What has been the best part of your college experience?
My sorority just in general, Gamma Phi Beta, because it’s really shaped my college experience. Without it, I wouldn’t have my roommate because she’s my little and it’s opened so many doors for me. For the past couple of years I’ve been on a Relay for Life committee and I did that because one of the girls in my house was on the committee and got me involved with that. A lot of my commitments now are because girls in the house have done them.
What are you proud to have been involved with at UO?
I’m really proud to be involved with fraternity and sorority life. It’s super philanthropic and I always feel like I’m doing something. Like we have to do community service and we kind of have to be involved and it’s really made me a more outgoing person. We’ve raised so much money for our causes. Im also proud of being involved with my internship at Kids First which is part of the Lane County District Attorney’s office. We’re victim advocates for kids who’ve been sexually abused or domestically abused and we try to make it a really safe place and make it so kids don’t have to repeat their story a lot and things don’t fall through the cracks. It really strengthens court cases for this type of thing.
What are some of your goals after college?
One of my goals is to get a job in foreign policy, so like at a think tank. And I really want to travel. I’ve traveled a lot already and I really want to continue that in the future.
Who’s your biggest role model/influencer?
My mom. I talk to her every single day and I can always talk to her about anything and everything. We talk way too much- it’s a little codependent.
