– Marcus Mariota was selected No. 2 in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans last night in Chicago. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner decided to stay at home in Hawaii and celebrate the moment with his family instead of being in Chicago to shake NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s hand. Mariota is being introduced as the future of the Titans in Tennessee today. Former Florida State quarterback James Winston went No. 1 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccanears.
– Arik Armstead is heading back to California. With the No. 17 pick in the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers chose Armstead to help anchor their 3-4 defense, something very similar to what he did for the Ducks. Armstead is originally from Sacramento, Calif. and will now be playing professional football just 100 miles south from where he grew up.
– Senior weekend is upon the Oregon softball program. Prior to Oregon’s first pitch against No. 18 Cal on Sunday, the Ducks will honor seniors Janie Takeda, Karissa Hovinga, Sara Goodrum and Jamie Rae Sullivan. Takeda is a two-time all-American who’s been breaking Oregon career records this year while Hovinga is widely considered the No. 2 pitcher on the team the past two years. Goodrum is a reserve outfielder and Sullivan is a reserve infielder.
– For the last time in the history of Howe Field, the Oregon softball program will play a regular season series against a Pac-12 opponent. Once this season concludes, Howe Field will be torn down and replaced with Jane Saunders Stadium will be constructed. Oregon has needed a new softball stadium for a long time but due to financial reasons, it was unable to build one. Then, a $10-million donation from former fullback Robert Sanders helped get the momentum rolling for the new stadium, which will hold 1,500 seats.
– The 2015 season for the Oregon football team will unofficially kick off on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the annual Spring Game at Autzen Stadium. Just like the last few years, admission is free with the donation of three canned food products and the Ducks will honor the military with their jerseys. This will be the first time fans get to see the quarterback battle to replace Mariota while watching unknown players like Tony Brooks-James and Travis Jonsen
