Kelly Graves said Jillian Alleyne’s 30-point, 25-rebound performance against UCLA was impactful.
And the women’s basketball community certainly agrees.
Alleyne was named Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, her third award in two days. She was named espnW and Pac-12 player of the week on Monday.
She is the first Pac-12 player selected for the award this season. She was selected by Mel Greenberg, the USBWA coordinator for women’s basketball.
Alleyne scored the game-winning bucket with 1.8 seconds remaining to help the Ducks pull off a 14-point comeback win, 67-65, against UCLA.
“This is my 28th year of coaching and I don’t think I have ever had a player have a more impressive performance,” head coach Kelly Graves said after the UCLA win. “And then to see her cap it off with a game-winning shot was something special. She really played tonight like the All-American I know she can be.”
The award has been given weekly since the 1987-1988 season by the USBWA.
As a recipient, Alleyne is eligible for the 2015 Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year award, which will be presented during the USBWA’s annual awards event in Tampa during the NCAA Final Four.
