Make no mistake about it, Jillian Alleyne’s performance on Saturday caught the women’s basketball world’s attention.
After being named espnW national player of the week Sunday night, Alleyne was selected Pac-12 women’s basketball player of the week Monday morning.
Alleyne posted 30 points and 25 rebounds in Oregon’s 14-point comeback win, 67-65, against UCLA on Saturday.
She’s the first Oregon player this season to earn the conference’s weekly honors.
Her bucket with 1.8 seconds remaining on an assist from Lexi Petersen helped the Ducks break a tie and win the game.
She was 11-of-17 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line, including scoring Oregon’s 10 final points. Of her 25 rebounds, 16 came in the second half. She had 10 offensive rebounds.
“I definitely came into this game wanting to prove myself,” Allene said after the game. “Not to UCLA or anybody else, but to coach Kelly (Graves).”
The performance was her fourth career 30-point, 20-rebound game. Alleyne posted two last season against Washington.
“This is my 28th year of coaching and I don’t think I have ever had a player have a more impressive performance,” head coach Kelly Graves said after the UCLA win. “And then to see her cap it off with a game-winning shot was something special. She really played tonight like the all-American I know she can be.”
The win snapped a six-game Oregon losing streak and helped the Ducks improve to 9-11, 2-7 Pac-12.
Her 30 points moved her into eighth place all-time in Oregon’s scoring history. She leapfrogged Debbie Sporich (1,404 points), Debbie Adams (1,412) and Taylor Lilley (1,415).
Her 25 rebounds tied the mark for third-best in Oregon single-game history.
Alleyne currently leads the Pac-12 in rebounding at 15.3 boards per game and ranks fifth in scoring with 17.2 points per game. She leads the NCAA with 18 double-doubles.
