Willamette Valley Music Festival rocks on

By all accounts, students just watched a spectacular set of concerts take place all over campus last weekend. Even the Student Stage, which saw a group of performers’ equipment literally erupt in flames, was unencumbered by the anything-but-certain Eugene weather. Beyond being able to take in awesome music, students got to experience all the local talent that Eugene has to offer.
Oregon baseball, once again
We know, it’s gotten a bit redundant to keep endorsing the Ducks baseball team, but over the weekend they reasserted their dominance in the Pac-12’s pecking order with two solid wins against the next-closest team, the Wildcats of Arizona@@http://www.arizonawildcats.com//@@. With several key players returning from injury, the team is a couple of series away from being able to look at the larger NCAA picture.

Going once, going twice, sold!

As of this writing, former Oregon running back (and, lest we forget, erstwhile boxer) LeGarrette Blount’s locker panel is bidding at $158 and has six days left. (His locker panel!) And though Blount is now a two-year player in the NFL, he won’t see a cent of what will become a several-hundred-dollar transaction. Same for LaMichael James, a second-round NFL draftee, who will watch his old jersey sell for nearly $2,800 that he won’t touch.
Apologies to Mexico for all the sombreros
As many have said, Cinco de Mayo is both a popular drinking holiday in the U.S. and a commemoration of the Battle of Puebla which ended in a victory for the Mexicans over the French. So, hundreds of gigantic sombreros, false mustaches and margaritas later, we know there have been far too many cases of cultural misappropriation throughout Eugene. Sorry for all of that.
