Ryan is currently teaching at Oxford while participating in a multiyear project. He is studying the relation of pacifism and nonviolence to modern just-war theories at the the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict,@@http://www.elac.ox.ac.uk/@@ a division of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations.@@http://www.politics.ox.ac.uk/@@
“Peter DeFazio represents all that is best in Oregon’s political culture and will provide an important perspective on American politics, both short-term and long-term,” Ryan said. “I am excited about his visit, as are many others at Oxford.”
DeFazio’s lecture is being co-sponsored by the University Law School and Oxford’s Global Directions@@http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/fellows_and_research/globaldirections.shtml@@ research group, a union of graduate students working with contemporary international issues at Merton College, one of the oldest schools at Oxford. Ryan has been important in helping the University establish ties with Oxford, as well as with the international community.
