The nationally televised show that highlights the premier game of the week in college football is making its seventh trip to Eugene and has now been at the University of Oregon for four consecutive years, making Oregon the only school to have hosted the event four years running.
Last year GameDay traveled to Eugene when the then No. 9-ranked Ducks took on the No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils. Oregon ended up winning the game 41-27 over the feisty squad from Tempe behind strong performances by Kenjon Barner and Darron Thomas. Barner rushed the ball 31 times for 181 yards and a touchdown on the ground and Thomas threw for 187 yards and two scores as well.
Overall, the Ducks boast a 5-1 record when GameDay invades Eugene. Prior to the win over ASU last year, Oregon defeated Stanford 52-31 in 2009, beat the No. 4-ranked USC Trojans in an unforgettable and unexpected 47-20 victory in 2009, won 35-23 over Arizona State in 2007 and defeated UCLA in 2000, 29-10.
The lone blemish when Oregon hosts GameDay came in 2007 when the Ducks were defeated by the California Golden Bears 31-24.
As has become custom, a large amount of Duck fans are expected to brave the elements and arrive at the GameDay sight in the early hours of Saturday to watch the live, nationally broadcasted show, which begins at 6 a.m. PST on ABC.
Oregon fans will wait patiently for the analysts of the show to make their picks for the game and perhaps they will see the excitable and unpredictable Lee Corso put on the Oregon Duck headgear once again.
Chris Fowler and friends will once again broadcast from the Memorial Quad located in front of the Lillis Business Complex like they did last year for the showdown with Arizona State. Prior to last year, GameDay had previously been set up near Autzen Stadium but the positive campus feel that the Memorial Quad provided last year has convinced the higher ups to return to the campus area.
