After tuition, rent and food, textbooks are arguably the next biggest cost any college student faces during their college years. And let’s face it — tuition, rent and food are all necessities.
The conspiracy theorists among us may tell you that books are a huge financial scam. Unfortunately, there is a bit of truth to that argument.
Allocating the precious funds a college student has to books can seem unreasonable — as many courses list some books as optional and new books in the bookstore can reach triple-digit prices.
First, consider whether the book is a necessity. Secondly, the University bookstore is not the only place to find materials. As many students have already discovered, websites like Amazon and Barnes and Noble can offer the same textbooks found in the bookstore for extremely competitive prices.
In all, be frugal, be smart, and hopefully textbooks won’t put too big a dent in your bank account.
