Emerald Media Group is in full-fledged revolution. New format. New design. New logo. New everything. The only thing that hasn’t changed about this college media company is the curiosity, drive and integrity of its staff.
I’m a student reporter here at the Emerald. This is my second year as a staff reporter, and I’ve personally witnessed the transformation of what is now one of the best independent student newspapers in the country — and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it.
My name is Sam Stites, and I’m a junior journalism student here at the University of Oregon. This year, I will be taking a look at the business of college athletics through the lens of the Oregon athletic department. My beat, Ducks Inc., will take a look at the ins and outs of how division 1A schools run its programs. The people. The money. The relationships. Everything that goes into a successful NCAA sports program.
This blog will serve as part of my creative workflow. As I interview key sources in the field of college athletics, I will be blogging about what I have learned and what I seek to learn. I’ll take a look at national and local issues and provide information for you, the readers, to discuss and interpret.
Follow me as I dive into the world of college athletics as you’ve never seen it before from a point of view that has very limited access.
