Meanwhile, behind enemy lines, Penn State’s student publication Onward State has published a list of five things to watch for during the teams’ matchup. Among the items, the revenge factor:
“The last time these two teams played, it did not end well for Penn State, as the Ducks snapped an NCAA-record 94 match home winning streak at Rec Hall. The two teams are different now (All-American Micha Hancock was not even our setter at that point last year), but it will be interesting to see if this affects either team.”
ESPN published a profile on Oregon outside hitter Liz Brenner this morning, detailing the exploits of Oregon’s four-sport athlete. In it, Brenner talks about wanting to play football, when she’ll join the women’s basketball team and her little brother Doug, who’s committed to play O-line for Oregon’s football team next fall.
The same article predicts the results of tonight’s semifinals games. ESPN picks Texas to overpower Michigan and Penn State to dispatch Oregon:
“Penn State has won 12 matches in a row since that loss in Lincoln, Neb., nine of them sweeps. Oregon does have some experience with beating Penn State, though; the Ducks defeated the Nittany Lions in their 2011 season opener, and a lot of the current players from both teams were involved in that match.
“What I do remember of Oregon is they have terrific talent,” Penn State coach Russ Rose said. “They have a very fast system that most teams are not familiar with.”
Oregon/Penn State begins at 9 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN 2.
