Nicole Blood ran the fastest 5,000m by a Duck in 20 years Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays, clocking in at 15 minutes, 43.82 seconds. The sophomore finished 11th overall and third among collegians, to drop more than half a minute off her previous personal best of 16:16.58 set two weeks ago at the Pepsi Invitational.
“She did a great job,” Oregon head coach Vin Lananna said. “She was gonna make a big move at 800 meters (to go), kinda had a side stitch and really wasn’t able to close as fast as she’d have liked to have closed, but still, that’s a great performance and that’s good, because there’s more in the tank.”
