Oregon Daily Emerald: What are some of the positives and negatives of being so tall?
Nicole Canepa: Being so tall, you’re going to be down low. You’re going to be battling with strong post players. It’s going to be a challenge, but we work on it everyday in practice.
ODE: Was it different being so tall in high school? (Canepa is 6-foot-5.)
NC: In high school, I was pretty much the tallest player out there so its been a completely different transition to college because you’re not the tallest player out there anymore. You’re not the strongest player.
ODE: If you could play another position what would it be?
NC: I would like to play a guard, but that’s just based on my dribbling skills, which is what comes in the spring (workouts). So that’ll be something I can focus on so maybe when I do get a rebound – instead of looking for the outlet – I can take it down the court maybe to get somebody else open.
ODE: What’s the best place to eat in the Bay Area?
NC: It’s called Subs. It’s a pretty small little shop but it has the best sandwiches. I’ve been going there since I was probably eight and it’s just very well-known to my family, to all my friends – everybody knows about it. If anybody ever goes to San Francisco definitely look up Subs.
