Eugene Police Officer Doug Ledbetter of the Eugene Police Traffic Enforcement Team will to appear on truTV’s “Speeders” tonight at 8 p.m., according to an EPD news release.
The nationally televised program is filmed in cities across the country, and features motorists during some of their worst moments, the release said. Ledbetter, who has been with EPD for 10 years and part of the traffic unit for about two and a half years, said the show takes a “lighthearted look at law enforcement.”
Ledbetter said the humorous excuses motorists make when being pulled over by officers is a large part of the show. “It’s amazing what kind of crazy stuff you come across at just simple traffic stops,” he said.
Ledbetter said this week’s episode will feature a person who attempts to flee from the scene after being pulled over for running a stop sign. Ledbetter also said he is set to appear on the Oct. 30 episode, and that a University staff member on the show is pulled over after she dropped her cell phone in the toilet.
Ledbetter said he usually works on a motorcycle, but for the show he will work from an unmarked vehicle.
“Being on the show was just business as usual,” he said. “I just had a few cameras following me around.”
“Speeders” airs locally on channel 51 for Comcast cable subscribers.
