Jen Derby, the most decorated lacrosse player in Oregon lacrosse’s four-year history who finished her senior season in March, has been hired as the program’s newest assistant coach.
Competing as Jen May during her collegiate career, Derby will join head coach Jen Larsen and assistant Robert Bray Jr. on the coaching staff after former player and assistant Brooke Dieringer left last month.
May married former Oregon track and field pole vaulter Jon Derby in July 2007.
“Having Jen join our staff is tremendous for our program,” head coach Jen Larsen said in an Oregon media release. “Though we will miss her leadership and competitive spirit on the field, having her on the sidelines will be a fantastic asset to the team. She has been part of this program from its inaugural year bringing a wealth of knowledge from the student-athlete perspective, and this will be invaluable in our recruiting efforts and direction for the program.”
May is the only Duck to be named to all-American status after leading Oregon to a program-record 13 wins last season. As a midfielder, May topped the Duck record books in points (188), goals (128), draw controls (209), ground balls (162) and caused turnovers (142).
