Brian Kimball and Dennis Phillips, of Facility Services, removed one of the sections of the obelisk early Wednesday morning that stood north of Knight Library. The mostly plywood structure towered more than 30 feet above Memorial Quad Lawn and was erected about six months ago to stimulate campus discussion. Backers of the project hope to construct a permanent structure made of bronze or granite, but want to place it somewhere on University Street so that cement marking can be made to measure shadows.
