Are you looking for a way to stay dry and still have fun this summer? Put away the sunscreen and bug spray and grab a comfortable seat in front of a small screen. This summer is definitely the best season for TV.
If you don’t have cable, your summer viewing will be limited to tired reality shows like “America’s Got Talent,” “The Bachelorette,” “Big Brother” and “Last Comic Standing.”
Even something as cool-sounding as “American Gladiators” can’t compare to what cable has to offer.
“Project Runway” and “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” are this summer’s reality TV highlights.
The shows have plenty of drama, fashion faux pas and gay jokes, and both can be found on the Bravo channel.
The latest installment of the Peabody Award-winning “Project Runway” will premiere on July 16 and feature 16 struggling designers who will do anything to hear Heidi Klum say, “You’re in.”
I don’t know how the contestants could top the fierceness of Christian Siriano or his crazy hair, but I cannot wait to watch them try.
Griffin’s fabulous Emmy Award-winning reality show kicked off its fourth season this month and it’s more hilarious than ever.
This Thursday’s episode promises a plethora of great material as Griffin works on Air New Zealand’s Pink Flight en route to Mardi Gras in Sydney and enjoys the festivities with ‘N Sync hunk Lance Bass.
But reality TV is just the start of the summer fun.
The USA Network will feature brand new seasons of its most acclaimed shows, including the obsessive-complusive detective series “Monk,” the fake psychic comedy “Psych,” and the former-spy-on-the-run drama “Burn Notice.”
“Monk” will premiere its seventh season of quirky police work, phobias and Handi Wipes on July 18.
The third season of the deceptive detective show “Psych” will also premiere on July 18, and “Burn Notice” will return on July 10.
USA’s most promising summer show is another series with a female officer who doesn’t follow the rules as its star. “In Plain Sight” follows the life of a U.S. Marshall working for the Witness Protection Program.
Like TNT’s “The Closer” and “Saving Grace,” the show’s main character, Mary Shannon, doesn’t take any crap from her male counterparts and has a complicated love life.
Unlike the other two police dramas, “In Plain Sight” has fantastically real characters and very well-written plots.
The stand-out star of the summer TV season is AMC’s Golden Globe-winning drama “Mad Men.”
The 1960s drama centered around a Madison Avenue advertising agency will debut its second season July 27.
The smart, surprising and provocative drama is the most stylish show on TV. I would watch for the wardrobe alone, but witty lines like “Love was invented by guys like me to sell Nylons” make it my favorite show of the last decade.
The second season promises to feature more than its share of the two things that have made the show great: secrets and sex.
If you absolutely cannot wait another month for a “Mad Men” fix, the first season will be available on DVD July 1, and tomorrow marks the release of “Mad Men: Music from the Series, Vol. 1.”
There will also be a season one marathon beginning July 20.
