The Oregon Club Sports women’s water polo team will travel to Federal Way, Wash., this weekend to play teams from up and down the West Coast in the Sea Otter Invitational Tournament.
The Ducks are 2-0 after beating Oregon State 15-5 and Western Oregon 13-9, and they said they plan to finish better than last year’s third-place performance at the tournament.
“We are going for number one, and we aren’t going to settle for anything less,” senior Nicole Penland said.
Many transfer students have joined the team this year, adding speed and power to help perfect what the team hopes will be a perfect season.
“We are playing all new teams we have never played before, and we will be better than last year,” head coach Lea Bonebrake said.
Men’s rugby
After coming off a strong victory over Stanford, 32-10, last weekend, the Oregon men’s rugby team takes on Brigham Young this weekend in Eugene.
The Ducks — who are off to a 1-1 start after defeating Stanford and losing to Sacramento State — have a string of games ahead that includes Washington this weekend.
“Brigham Young is a strong team, but we need to stay focused with what we are doing and not change our level of play for them,” head coach Bob Snyder said.
Oregon and BYU met last year in a tournament where they played only one half (20 minutes) of a regular game, with the Ducks falling 20-10.
“They aren’t any better athletes than us and we can for sure hang with them,” team coordinator Will Middleton said. “We like being the underdogs.”
Men’s lacrosse
The Oregon men’s lacrosse team is looking to improve to .500 in a home game this weekend against Western Washington.
The Ducks suffered a close loss to Chico State, 13-12, last weekend, leaving them with a 1-2 overall record.
Team coordinator Beau Dickey said the team has upgraded in a lot of areas this year and is looking to improve upon last year’s record of 7-10.
“It will be a close game against Washington and might even go into overtime,” Dickey said. “We are considered the team who is going to upset everybody.”
This will remain to be seen as the two teams face off at 1 p.m. Saturday on the turf field next to the Student Recreation Center.
