Hamas winning majority control of the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli disengagement from Gaza, Israel’s planned withdrawal from the West Bank and other recent developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be examined tonight at 6 p.m. in 182 Lillis.
A panel of three scholars will discuss questions about how power shifts in the ongoing conflict will influence the future political landscape of the Middle East.
Dr. Sherifa Zuhur, a visiting professor in national security affairs from the U.S. Army War College, studies Islamic movements, modern Middle Eastern politics and Islamic socio-cultural developments.
Dr. Jonathan Seidel, of the University’s Judaic and religious studies departments, has taught religious, philosophy and Judaic studies classes at six different universities over the past two decades. Seidel is also a rabbi.
Dr. Shaul Cohen, of the geography department, researches the intersection of political and cultural geography and specifically focuses on questions of ethnicity and territory.
The panelists will give a brief presentation of their research interests and discuss them in light of recent events in Israel and Palestine, followed by a question-and-answer session with audience members.
