21Student recipients of support through the McNair Scholars Program will present work completed during summer research internships today from noon to 5 p.m. in the Gumwood Room in the EMU. The Annual University of Oregon McNair Symposium is a public forum highlighting each student’s research and achievement through the financial support program.
The program is designated to assist junior- and senior-level undergraduates interested in pursuing doctoral degrees.
Named for Ronald E. McNair, an astronaut killed in the 1986 space shuttle Challenger explosion, the program gives support to students who are low-income, minorities and the first generation in their family to earn a bachelor’s degree. The McNair Scholars Program is part of the University’s Academic Learning Services and is a federally funded program.
Once accepted into the program, each McNair Scholar receives a stipend to assist with living costs, freeing students to focus on activities central to future success during and after graduate school such as research concentrated on science, mathematics and history.
