The Senate voted on Nov. 16 to create an ad-hoc committee to solicit and judge student suggestions for how student government should spend $800,000 in over-realized funds. The money came from several years’ worth of student fees that were collected when enrollment numbers were higher than predicted.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will need to schedule its first meeting this week, according to the bill. Sen. Kyle McKenzie said the committee is “really looking at getting started when we get back from winter break.”
McKenzie has created a group on the college networking site Facebook.com called “What would you spend $1 million Dollars on?” which had 131 members as of Monday night.
Some student suggestions on the site include replacing seating in buildings with worn out desks, constructing a parking garage and finding a way to drain puddles that accumulate on sidewalks around campus.
