A Eugene Police Department cruiser rear-ended a red Honda CR-V on Monday while traveling on Franklin Boulevard going toward Springfield. The accident occurred at roughly 4:30 p.m. at the intersection outside of the Williams’ Bakery.
“The police vehicle ran into the back of the first vehicle. No injuries other than sore necks were reported,” said EPD spokesman Sgt. Rich Stronach. “The police vehicle had some front end damage to it, so it was towed to our city shop. But the other vehicle was drivable and left on its own.”
L. Kathleen Sapp, the driver of the Honda, stopped at the intersection for a light that was turning red, but Officer Bobby McDermed, who was in the police car behind, failed to stop in time and ran into the back of the Honda.
“It just looks like your basic fender bender,” Stronach said. “In cases like this the investigation is conducted and the case is sent over to the city prosecutor’s office for them to decide what action to take.”
