Eugene police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking for a man who robbed Washington Federal Savings at 200 E. 11th Ave. near the University last Wednesday afternoon.
A man approached the counter and handed a demand note to two tellers, according to Eugene police. The man received an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen running south on Pearl Street.
The man didn’t display any weapons, Eugene police spokeswoman Kerry Delf said. She added that the amount of money taken isn’t released because the robbery is under investigation.
Eugene saw an unusual spike in bank robberies last year. Bank robberies increased 109 percent in 2006 compared with 2005, according to Eugene police crime statistics.
Liberty Bank, 3540 W. 11th Ave., was robbed on March 20, and Umpqua Bank, 1175 Valley River Drive, was robbed March 2.
Delf said police are unsure if they’re related and said she wasn’t aware of any similarities among the bank robberies.
Anyone with information can call Eugene police at (541) 682-5511.
