The Villard Street Pub, formerly known as Neighbor’s, is conveniently located just east of campus behind the Market of Choice and Hiron’s on 14th and Villard. It’s close to both the law school and Graduate Village – the perfect location to relieve the stress after a long night of work.
Located on the east side of campus, it does not seem to attract the same kind of clientele that the bars on the west side of campus have in excess. Villard Street Pub has a very relaxed and laid-back atmosphere about it; no one is yelling or crowding or making an ass out of themselves.
This is a bar for a quiet drink on a weeknight rather than a raucous party scene with over-drinkers. Villard Street Pub is very private and you never feel crowded or shoved around. This is another nice change of pace from the other bars about town, which are often crowded to a level of near-discomfort. The bar itself is full of televisions, so when the Ducks are playing football or basketball, the place is very likely to be swarming with Ducks fans. Nonetheless, during non-peak times the bar is peaceful and quiet.
Further distinguishing itself from other typical Eugene bars, the Villard Street Pub features outdoor fire pits and a nice covered area out back, which is always a big bonus for a bar. There are never enough good outdoor areas at bars, aside from perhaps Mulligan’s on Willamette.
I’m not really a very big drinker, but I do enjoy going out with my friends every now and again, and Villard Street Pub seems to be made for us.
The large selection of local Oregon beers at fairly decent prices is wonderful, as is the apparent lack of most cheap, typical beers like Budweiser or Miller.
So, for just a drink with your friends, at a bar that is close to campus without the close-to-campus feel, Villard Street Pub is the place.
