Elephant ear eaters, rejoice! It’s time again for the annual Lane County Fair.
From Aug. 14 to Aug. 19, the Lane County Fairgrounds will house a host of activities for people looking for a different way to spend their time this August.
This year’s festivities include a variety of local and national performers – and livestock – to entertain the masses.
On Aug. 14 and 19 throughout the day, All-Alaskan Pig Racing will pit the best swine athletes against each other as they race for the blue ribbon and a trough full of prizes. Why watch horses race each other when you can watch pigs instead?
Back again is the Annual Talent Show Competition. The deadline to enter has already passed, but fairgoers can watch the preliminaries Aug. 16 and 17. Finals will take place Aug. 19, and the winners of the 15-and-under category and the 16-and-over category will advance to represent Lane County in the Oregon State Fair on Aug. 26 in Salem.
Get your roller skate laced up, because the local group Emerald City Roller Girls will demonstrate their skills at the fair Aug. 18 at 8:30 p.m. At the East Garden entertainment venue, Eugene’s hard-core roller derby women will teach the dos and don’ts of roller derby as well as safety tips.
Fans of campus joke book seller Frog can meet him and buy his books Aug. 15, 16 and 19
As usual, there will be plenty of rides available, ranging from tame to “extreme.” Ride-lovers who want to scream their lungs out can find joy in the fact that the “extreme thrill-ride” Slingshot is back. The vertical ride shoots passengers 160 meters into the air at 100 miles per hour – definitely not for the faint-of-heart.
