This week marks the 34th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. Abortion being one of the more polarizing issues in American society, students and community members from different sides have organized a series of events this week to examine abortion and promote different viewpoints.
Monday in the Erb Memorial Union Amphitheater, the conservative group Network of enlightened Women (NeW) displayed one paper heart for each of the 621 abortions performed in Lane County in 2006.
Students for Choice is presenting a speaker from Planned Parenthood at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Maple Room of the EMU. In addition to the speaker, the group will be showing the film “The Abortion Diaries.”
Students for Choice is also having a free party at The Lorax co-op at 1648 Alder St. Saturday night at 9 p.m., showcasing musicians Samba Já, Ari Lesser and the Conjugal Visitors. The event will promote abortion rights.
