Racine, Wis. swingman Jamil Wilson signed and sent his national letter of intent Wednesday to Oregon, finalizing his commitment to the Oregon men’s basketball tournament.
The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Wilson averaged 21.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.8 blocks and 1.4 steals per game for Horlick High, which went 24-2 last season. Wilson was named player of the year for his county, and will play in the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday in Madison Square Garden in New York City. He is one of 24 high school players selected for the event, which will be televised on ESPN2.
The Ducks graduated senior guard Churchill Odia and post Frantz Dorsainvil after last season.
Besides Wilson, the Ducks signed South Medford 6-foot-6 forward E.J. Singler and Chipola College 6-foot-8 forward Jeremy Jacob during the fall signing period.
After committing to Oregon early in the year, he told media outlets that if Kent was fired he would consider reneging on his oral commitment.
With Kent around, the coach praised Wilson’s abilities.
“Jamil is an outstanding passer and has really developed his perimeter game,” Kent said. “He shoots the ball well and has a very high basketball IQ.”
According to a media release, Wilson also competed in track and field and volleyball in high school, the latter of which he was named all-state in.
“I think he fits very well in terms of how we play, wanting to get up and down in transition,” Kent said. “Jamil can score off the dribble, he can score by pulling up or he can hurt you by delivering the ball at the right time to the open teammate.”
