For all those students who were “screwed over” by the online ticketing system, Daniel Cogan has the answer.
As a representative for the HP Power to Change competition on campus, Cogan is hosting a tailgate party where two tickets to tomorrow night’s game against Arizona State will be raffled out.
This year, Newsweek named Hewlett Packard the greenest Fortune 500 Company. In an effort to prove its environmental consciousness, HP has created a program for 15 universities nationwide to compete in being the greenest campus in the country.
University seniors Steven Strand and Cogan are working to encourage students at the University and the rest of the Eugene community to download the “Power-to-Change” widget that reminds them to turn off their computers.
Cogan said the process of downloading the widget allows users to select which campus they’re associated with and tracks and quantifies the total amount of time and power saved campus-wide.
As of Thursday, the University placed fourth in the number of registrants, with 105, and also placed eighth with a 57 percent turn-off rate.
Cogan and Strand plan to hold several events for the HP cause by the end of the term. This Saturday, they’ll hold a tailgate before the Arizona State game.
“We purchased two tailgating spots and will be hosting a free tailgate at the football game that’s open to all students,” Cogan said.
“Whether they have a ticket or not, all students are welcome.”
The event will feature HP’s new laptop, HP Pavilion dm3, that Cogan and Strand hope students will come by and test.
“We’ll have some of the new HP laptops there and will be raffling off prizes to students who swing by and check it out,” Cogan said. “Hopefully we’ll have as many students as possible stop by and interact with the computers.”
Students should watch for the HP flags and blue and white balloons to find the tailgate location in the General Admission parking, Cogan said.
The HP tailgate event has also partnered with Green Man, an enthusiastic University football fan, to attend the event, take photos and greet fans.
“We want as many kids to come by, get some free food, and encourage them to download the widget,” Cogan said.
