The No. 6 men’s golf team continued its strong play in the first round of the USC Invitational, finishing in second through the first 18 holes on Monday.
Sophomore Eugene Wong shot a 65 (6-under par) in the first round, giving him a share of the overall lead.
Overall, the Ducks shot a 279 (5-under par) in the first round at North Ranch Country Club. No. 2 Stanford was the only team to finish ahead of Oregon with a 278 (6-under par). Sophomore Daniel Miernicki also got off to a promising start, shooting a 69 (2-under par) and tying for 11th place. Sophomore Andrew Vijarro, meanwhile, tied for 32nd place with a 72 (1-over par), and junior Isaiah Telles followed close behind with a 73 (2-over par).
The tournament features seven Pacific-10 Conference schools, as well as 11 ranked teams. The Ducks stand as the second highest ranked team in the tournament, with only the Cardinal placed in front of them. No. 8 UCLA, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 16 USC and No. 18 Oregon State are also competing.
The second round of play took place late Monday afternoon, while the final round will be played today.
