The No. 18 Oregon Duck baseball team continued its winning ways, especially out of conference, by beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs 7-2 in Spokane, Wash. Tuesday night. The game was the first of two.
Oregon (24-12) jumped out early on Gonzaga (13-23-1), scoring two runs in the first inning. Gonzaga scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings to even the score at two. But the Ducks responded with three runs in the top of the seventh and another two in the top of the eighth to run away with the victory.
Reliever Joey Housey earned the win for Oregon in two innings of work, giving up three hits and one run.
Zack Thornton started the game but left after the fifth inning.
Shortstop KC Serna led the way, going 2 for 4 with four RBI, including a two-run home run. In the second, Serna doubled home designated hitter Paul Eshleman and outfielder Jett Hart, and in the eighth he added his home run.
Jack Marder and Eddie Rodriguez also added RBI to Oregon’s total.
For Gonzaga, the team managed five hits off Oregon pitching, and Liam Baron took the loss giving up three runs in six innings of work.
The Ducks have won three of their last four games and are now 18-6 in non-conference games this season.
