University of Oregon benefactor Lorry Lokey pledged $10 million on Tuesday to the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, which broke ground on March 2, according to an article from Around the O, a university blog.
The money will go towards five faculty chair positions for the campus, which is set to open in 2020. The Knight Campus complex will require several new faculty positions in addition to those already in current departments, according to the article.
“The future is science, and it’s imperative that the UO builds for it,” Lokey told Around the O.
Lokey has contributed money to the university in the past, specifically for the Lorry I. Lokey Science Complex, which was named after him after he donated $74.6 million to UO for the complex.
