Here are the Emerald’s highlights from day two of Sasquatch! Music Festival 2018. Photos by Sarah Northrop and Dana Sparks below.
Lizzo is back at Sasquatch! after three years, but on the main stage this time —something she didn’t know until today. “I didn’t even know I was a main stage kind of bitch,” she said, noting that she was at the smaller Yeti stage when she played the festival in 2015. She came out in a one-piece bodysuit and matching chiffon robe with a shimmering choker. A cheetah print bra that matched her dancers’ bodysuits poked out from underneath the floral fern print of her costume. She covered TLC’s “Scrub,” drank Patron tequila right out of the bottle on stage and initiated what she thought should be the world record for a “mass twerking”. She called out to fans wearing Lizzo merch and asked if she could “talk some shit” for a second. She told a backstory for her closing song, “Good as Hell,” and what proved to be teachings of self-love and personal motivation for her crowd.
Girlpool is a two-piece band from LA that played into the hot, afternoon sun from the Bigfoot Stage. They played from songs from their 2017 album, “Powerplant.” Read the Emerald’s interview with Girlpool from 2017 here.
White Reaper played around the same time as Japandroids over on the Yeti Stage with their album “The World’s Best American Band.” They drew in a healthy crowd for how empty the festival seemed in the afternoon, with notably young attendees.
Shakey Graves wore a simple t-shirt that read “Don’t worry, be happy” and a cowboy hat during his set. His performance brought a more playful vibe to the Bigfoot Stage, opening with songs from his newest album “Can’t Wake Up,” released earlier this month. He also included older work like “If Not for You” from the 2014 album, “And The War Came.”
Petit Biscuit brought in some chill EDM from the El Chupacabra Stage contrasting Modest Mouse’s performance happening at the same time on the main stage.
