No. 3 Oregon women’s basketball continued its perfect start to the 2018-2019 season with an 88-58 victory over the Utah State Aggies (2-1) on Wednesday evening, improving to 3-0.
The Ducks came out strong from distance early on, scoring five of seven three-pointers in the first quarter alone. After dominating the first quarter 30-16, the team never looked back, and held a sizable lead for the remainder of the game.
The initial charge was led by junior guard Sabrina Ionescu, who was a perfect 3-3 from the three-point line in the first quarter.
Ionescu, who ESPNW recently picked as the NCAA preseason player of the year, ended the game with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, achieving her second double-double of the season.
Junior power forward Ruthy Hebard, who was ranked 10th on ESPNW’s list, continued to show why she is one of the most efficient shooters in the country in Thursday’s game. Hebard shot 5-6 from the field, 10-10 from the free throw line and was the highest scorer (20 points) on the court for either team.
The Ducks were 30-54 on field goals to Utah’s 23-60, however the biggest difference between the two teams came from the free throw line. The Ducks drew fouls in the paint and scored 21-24 on free throws to the Aggies’ 5-5.
Next up for the Ducks will be a home game against the Buffalo Bulls on Sunday at 2 p.m.
