Oregon soccer (7-7-1, 1-6-0 Pac-12) fell to No. 9 UCLA 2-1 on Thursday in Los Angeles in its sixth-straight loss with all three goals coming in the first half.
The Bruins wasted no time, scoring the opening goal . When Oregon goalkeeper Halla Hinriksdottir came out of goal to block, UCLA’s Ashley Sanchez scored the first goal of the game in just the fifth minute.
Oregon recovered less than a minute later with a goal from senior defender Jazmin Jackmon, her first goal for Oregon since transferring from Santa Clara her junior year. Senior forward Bayley Bruner earned the assist with a pass up on the left side as Jackmon lobbed the ball over UCLA goalkeeper Teagan Micah’s head.
UCLA took the lead back in the 38th minute with a header by Kennedy Faulknor off a corner kick to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead to take them into the half.
Both teams remained scoreless in the second to give the Bruins the 2-1 victory.
Oregon finished with six shots, while UCLA had double with 13. Meanwhile Oregon’s goalkeeper Hinriksdottir earned six saves.
The Ducks started with freshman Zoe Hasenauer and junior Emma Eddy in the attacking three together with senior Bayley Bruner for the first time. Oregon’s adjustment was made with the absence of Marissa Everett, who has been injured since Oregon’s 1-0 loss at Washington on Sept. 30.
The Ducks will play again in LA on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they take on USC, which beat Oregon State 5-0 on Thursday. Following that, Oregon will return home for its final three games of the season.
