Oregon concluded its season-opening series with a 4-3 win at Hawaii late Monday night. The Ducks (2-2) lost the first two games of the series, but rebounded with wins Sunday and Monday over the Rainbows (2-2) to salvage a series split.
In an interesting twist, Monday’s finale was shortened to eight innings because of travel considerations. The Ducks took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Danny Pulfer and a throwing error by Hawaii’s catcher David Peterson.
The Rainbows narrowed the lead to one run in the bottom of the seventh when Pi’ikea Kitamura scored on a sacrifice fly, but Oregon reliever Kellen Moen came in to the secure the game’s final four outs for his first save of the season.
Alex Keudell picked up the win for Oregon with five innings of two-run ballb while Hawaii reliever Jarrett Arakawa took the loss.
The Ducks also received offensive contributions from freshman Aaron Jones (who led off the game with a home run), and Connor Hoffman (who hit a run-scoring ground out).
Oregon has its home opener at 5 p.m. this Friday against St. Mary’s.
