The Oregon Daily Emerald’s new beer needs a name. Can you help?
Oakshire Brewing of Eugene is brewing up a single-batch beer in collaboration with the Emerald this fall. The beer’s name is up to you, our readers.
Post your ideas on our Facebook page. The beer will be a light-bodied amber with citrus-hop aromas. The contest closes Sept. 29. Readers will vote on three finalists, and the winner will be announced Oct. 14. The winner and finalists earn Emerald and Oakshire merchandise.
The first keg will be tapped during a release party at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Rennie’s Landing. The beer will be on tap in other campus-area bars this fall.
The Emerald, an independent nonprofit media company, has served as the student voice at the University of Oregon since 1900 and has earned the Pacemaker award, the Pulitzer Prize of college journalism, twice since 1997.
Oakshire Brewing was founded in October 2006 by University graduate Jeff Althouse, now the company’s general manager. Sam Holloway, an Oakshire board member; Travis Hanson, business development analyst; and Sam Terrell, sales representative, also have degrees from the University. Oakshire operates a brewery in Northwest Eugene. Its beers can be found in 22 oz. bottles and on draft throughout the Northwest.
