For a few fleeting moments on Thursday night, it looked as if the Oregon men’s basketball team would pull off another upset of No. 23 Washington (11-3, 3-0 Pacific-10 Conference) in Seattle. Yet, despite grabbing a 47-46 lead early in the second half, Oregon (7-8, 0-3 Pac-10) ultimately fell 87-69.
After briefly taking the lead in the second half, the Ducks were out-scored 41-22 for the rest of the game. Oregon suffered through a span of just under seven minutes with only one field goal in the second half.
It was also the fifth consecutive game in which the Ducks shot under 40 percent from the field. Oregon’s 39.3 percentage fell far below that of the Huskies (51.4 percent). Making matters worse, Washington had 46 points in the paint while Oregon had just 18.
Freshman Terrence Ross led the way for Washington with a season-high 25 points, while junior Isaiah Thomas added 20 points and nine assists.
For Oregon, senior forward Joevan Catron had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Garrett Sim was the only other Duck to score in double figures with 13 points.
Oregon remains winless in the Pac-10 Conference as it heads into a matchup with Washington State on Saturday.
