After missing the last six games of the season due to an indefinite suspension, Oregon cornerback Cliff Harris was officially dismissed from the University’s football program on Monday following a citation for marijuana use in Fresno, Calif., on Nov. 25.
According to a release from the athletic department, the reason provided for Harris’ dismissal was vaguely referred to as a “violation of team rules.” However, the Fresno Bee reported Monday afternoon that Harris was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana on Nov. 25 during a walk with friends.
The junior was originally suspended from the team back on Oct. 24 in the aftermath of a traffic stop. Although an initial charge of driving without insurance was dropped and another for driving with a suspended license was also set to be dropped on Jan. 17 after Harris pleaded no contest, he remained suspended for all team activities for the duration of the season.
Harris was also suspended for the season-opening game against LSU in the wake of a traffic stop back in June.
In all, the 2010 All-American finishes his Oregon career with 61 tackles, 8 interceptions (including one that was returned for a touchdown) and 38 punt returns for four additional touchdowns.
