City News Reporter

City news reporters are the community’s first responders. They work relentlessly and passionately to inform residents on all things local government, law enforcement, city administration and beyond. When news breaks, they cover it. When community members have questions, they turn to our news reporters for answers. Reporters may work on long-form, in-depth, and investigative pieces as well as shorter breaking news stories.

Campus News Reporter

News reporters are the Emerald’s first responders. They work relentlessly and passionately to inform the UO community on all things ASUO, UOPD, administration and beyond. When news breaks, they cover it. When UO students have questions, they turn to our news reporters to answer them. Reporters may work on long form, in-depth and investigative pieces as well as shorter breaking news stories.

Opinion Columnist

Opinion Columnists provide well-informed perspectives on local issues affecting the UO community, often prompting debate and encouraging readers to consider something from a different point of view. They thoroughly research their topics, stay on top of local issues and aren’t afraid to disagree with the status quo. Columns should be truthful and written in an authoritative manner.

Investigative Reporter

Investigative reporters work with the Emerald’s investigations team on longer-form projects and stories. These reporters are experienced with a strong understanding of ethics, and are prepared to take on challenging stories, face complex issues and work outside of a traditional weekly publication schedule.

Podcast/Audio Producer

The podcast desk edits and produces podcasts that cover a wide range of topics from food and video games to hard news and sports. Producers have the opportunity to host their own podcasts as well as creating stand alone audio stories. They may also work with other desks to create compelling content that accompanies on reporting.

Copy Editor

Copy editors are the Emerald’s last line of defense from grammatical and style errors. They read every story published at the Emerald for grammar and comprehension issues. Knowledge of the AP Stylebook rules and basic grammar rules is necessary in this position.

Illustrator

Illustrators create digital illustrations to go along with written stories, communicating with writers and editors to create artwork that captures the essence of a story. They also create stand alone visual stories.

Social Media Copywriter, Producer

Have  a creative edge?
