Current University Secretary Tim Inman is taking on the position of Vice President of Government and Community Relations. Inman has been working in this position on an interim basis since January.
As VP for Government and Community Relations, Inman’s responsibilities are to manage the logistics and operations of the University of Oregon Board of Trustees, help to ensure effective university governance and serve on the university’s senior leadership team.
Inman was brought into this position on a voting basis by UO’s Board of Trustees, which is a 15-member board that includes the president, John Karl Scholz, and 14 other volunteers who are appointed by Governor Tina Kotek.
Inman said in an email to the Emerald that the Board’s authority is established by Oregon state law and has oversight and decision-making power on subjects, including, but not limited to, tuition setting, academic policy and accountability of the institution’s leadership.
Inman is an Oregon State University alumni with a professional background in public administration and politics. 
Before starting a career at UO, Inman previously served as Chief of Staff to former Speaker of the House of Representatives Tina Kotek. Inman then transitioned into an occupation at UO in 2019 when he accepted the position of Chief of Staff to the Provost.
“In 2021, I transitioned into my current role as University Secretary and Advisor to the President, and most recently have accepted the role of Vice President for Government and Community Relations,” Inman said. “Recently, I took a partial leave of absence to lead the Governor’s transition team as she stood up her administration.”
According to Inman in an email, he does not hold any voting or decision-making power and oversees the university’s team responsible for managing the institution’s relationships and issues before the community, state and federal governments.
