The Oregon men’s basketball team will return home having dropped two closely contested games against Washington State and Washington. After falling short the Cougars in overtime, the Ducks just didn’t have quite enough in the tank to pull conclude their first Pac-12 road trip with a win tonight, falling 85-77.
Heading into the break, the Ducks held a 42-32 lead. But as they opened the second half, the Ducks started to fall apart.
Early in the half, the Huskies went on an 8-0 run, taking their first real lead of the game. From there, it was all down hill.
Andrew Andrews and Nigel Williams-Goss led the way for the Huskies. Andrews tallied a season-high 21 points, while Williams-Goss added 20 of his own. Opposite from the Ducks, the Huskies have now won two straight conference games.
With the game tied at 59 a piece, the Ducks had one last opportunity to win the game, but a final Huskies surge just proved to be too much. Their 11-0 run with under nine minutes to play held as the final straw as the Ducks struggled to score down stretch.
For the Ducks, it was Dillon Brooks and Dwayne Benjamin making a mark. Brooks finished with a team-high 16 points, while Benjamin recorded 15 points and five rebounds.
Joseph Young had another bad outing. Young, who shot 3 for 12 from the field, finished with eight points and four assists. This rough performance came right after he scored 32 points against the Cougars the other night.
The Ducks now look forward to a Thursday night matchup with a 1-4 USC team. The Trojans are coming off an 83-66 loss to UCLA. They are currently tied for last in the conference standings.
