– The much anticipated 2016 Alamo Bowl is just around the corner and the Ducks are in full preparation mode. The match-up between Oregon and TCU, two of the most high-powered offenses in the country, may not be the bowl game that fans of either side had hoped for at the start of the season, but will be entertaining nonetheless. In the days leading up to the January 2nd game, The Emerald is breaking down how the Ducks stack up, unit by unit, against the offensive juggernaut that is TCU.
– After a controversial decision by the IAAF (the global governing body for track and field) to award Eugene the rights to host the 2021 World Championships, Tracktown USA has defended their bid for the event. In a press release sent out last Wednesday, the bidding agency said that the proposal ” adhered to all ethical and legal standards for organizing, presenting and advocating for our bid, according to IAAF rules.” The decision to host the event in Eugene marks the first time the World Championships will be held in the United States.
– In order for the World Championships to be held in Eugene, historic Hayward Field must undergo renovations to add 30,000 seats to accommodate the massive crowds that will accompany the event. Heading the renovation is the UO Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that is responsible for handling gifts to and from the University. The renovations are scheduled to take about a year, starting in the Summer of 2016 and finishing up in the Summer of 2017.
– Both the men’s and women’s basketball team have one final preseason tune-up until Pac-12 play rolls around. Both teams have had success in the early season, the men sit at 10-2 and the women at 12-0, but Pac-12 play is a different beast. The undefeated women’s team will be tested like nothing else this season; five Pac-12 teams are currently ranked in the NCAA Top 25. They wrap-up preseason at home against Seattle. For the men, the Pac-12 is not as well represented in the AP Top 25, except for perennial powerhouse Arizona who currently sit at 8th in the nation. The Ducks finish preseason against Western Oregon on Tuesday.
