Richard Lariviere — who was removed from his position as University president in November by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education — is being considered as a top candidate for president and chief executive officer of The Field Museum, a natural history museum in Chicago the Oregonian reports.
The museum has searched for six months looking for a replacement for John McCarter who is looking to retire later this year. McCarter is reported to have a salary of $509,000.
The museum features encyclopedic collections of biological and geological specimens and cultural objects as the data needed to understand the nature of — and conditions affecting — environmental and cultural change.
Lariviere received a unanimous vote Friday from the museum’s executive committee. The museum’s board of trustees will vote Tuesday whether or not to name him president.
