The Ducks began the day in a tie for 13th place overall, themselves on the precipice of elimination before the weekend. After waiting until the afternoon to tee off, Oregon’s climb up the standings began in earnest. After posting a seven-over 291 and 10-over 294 in the first and second rounds, respectively, the Ducks used Thursday’s 288 to shoot up the leaderboard to finish with a composite score of 21-over 873.
Individually, Pac-12 Player of the Year Eugene Wong came alive when it counted, shooting a two-under 69 in the third round and catapulting himself into a tie for 13th overall. Fellow senior Daniel Miernicki shot two-over 73 and came in at a tie for 21st overall; Andrew Vijarro followed close behind with a tie for 29th. Freshman Jonathan Woo and junior Robbie Ziegler, meanwhile, played little factor with their ties for 123rd and 144th respectively.
Oregon’s quarterfinal match with UCLA begins Friday.
