After months of controversy over the “social host” ordinance, plans to finalize the draft could come to fruition Monday evening after a Eugene City Council public hearing.
In response, a student-formed Facebook group called “Rally against the $1,000 Party Fine” is planning to walk together to the public hearing Monday evening. The group will gather at the Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
“What we plan to do right now present our petitions to the City Council after we get there and after we march,” ASUO senator and group administrator Lamar Wise said. “We’re going to have a few testimonies from students stating their concerns with the ordinance and then we are also going to present some solution to the City Council.”
The group has 364 affirmative responses.
The ASUO Senate met with Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy on Oct. 24 to discuss a potential solution to the current language of the ordinance but no new ideas were officially put together. @@http://kittypiercy.com/about/@@ Piercy recommended students present a new solution to the city council because she thought the council was likely to pass the ordinance.
