Dalai Lama may visit Eugene
The Dalai Lama may visit the University of Oregon and the Nyen-Gyud Samten Choe Ling Center, a study and meditation organization, on May 10, making this his first visit to Eugene in history.

According to The Register-Guard, the Dalai Lama will also be visiting Portland for the second time, and his panel discussions, talks and small summit will focus on spirituality and the environment. Other notable figures that will be a part of the Portland summit will include Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley.@@checked on Google@@
Eugene businesswoman named a ‘Woman of Worth’
Lorraine Kerwood, founder of NextStep Recyling in Eugene, is one of 10 women being nationally honored as a 2012 Woman of Worth, according to KVAL. L’Oreal Paris chose Kerwood based on her work at Kindtree Autism and NextStep, where she has recycled over 10 thousand pounds of electronic waste.
Online voting for the grand prize of $25,000 will continue through Nov. 21. Votes may be submitted at womenofworth.com.
UO School of Architecture and Allied Arts named among the best in nation
The Journal “Design Intelligence” has named the UOAAA one of the top programs in the U.S. for sustainable design education, according to KEZI.
While the overall program was ranked sixth, UO’s Department of Landscape Architecture was recognized as the fourth most admired undergraduate program for its sustainability.
Woman killed after car crashes through office wall
Kaye Hall, 60, @@checked@@of Buckley was killed on Wednesday after an unnamed 80-year-old woman drove through the wall of the insurance office where she worked and pinned her beneath the car. The driver had been trying to turn south onto Logan Avenue from Airport Way, but crashed after she did not pull out of a sharp turn, according to KVAL.
Hall was pronounced dead at the scene after medics unsuccessfully performed CPR on her. The driver was unharmed.
Courtroom outburst hurts stabbing plea deal
Justin James Peterson, 23,@@checked@@ could be facing an even longer sentence than his assigned 7.5 years as a result of venting during his hearing on Wednesday morning, according to The Register-Guard. Peterson claimed that he had actually “helped society” when he robbed a 64-year-old man at knife point and injured two bystanders who had tried to step in on Sept. 28. Peterson also described the incident as a “drug deal gone bad.”
